In the first night of the Don Haskins Sun Bowl Invitational, the Alcorn State Braves were defeated by host UTEP 78-45.
Despite outrebounding the Miners 37-34, the Braves turned the ball over 19 times in the game.
UTEP opened the game with an 8-0 run.
The Miners maintained a comfortable lead over the Braves and led at the half 39-15.
After transfer
Michael Davis scored the first basket of the second half, UTEP went on a 13-0 run to extend their lead to 52-17.
The Braves did manage to score 30 points in the second half but UTEP was to far ahead for the Braves to catch up.
Marquis Vance and
Reginald Johnson led the Braves with 12 points a piece.
The Braves will face North Dakota State in the consolation game tomorrow at 5 p.m.
