Salas Hits Walk-Off Home Run, Braves Defeat Jackson State 4-3

Box Score LORMAN - Despite the bad weather the past two days and the horrible conditions of the field, Head Coach Barrett Rey and the Alcorn State Braves baseball managed to get the field ready after several hours of laboring work.

The hard work paid off in the bottom of the ninth inning when senior catcher Edgardo Salas hit a walk-off home run on the first pitch to defeat rival Jackson State 4-3 in game one of the Braves and Tigers three-game series.

The Braves opened the game scoring two runs in the first inning on a misplayed ball by the Tigers to go ahead 2-0.

In the second inning, Ashton Lewis stepped to the plate and hit a double and two batters later scored on sacrifice fly by Salas to extend the Braves lead to 3-0.

For the rest of the way the Braves were scoreless and allowed Jackson State to score consecutive runs in the fourth and fifth innings to tie the game at 3-3.

Pitcher Ryan Fuentes pitched a complete game striking out a career-high eight batters but it was Salas who was the hero coming away with the walk-off home run in the ninth inning to give the Braves the win over the Tigers.

Salas finished the game with two hits, two RBIs and a run scored in the Braves victory.

The Braves and Tigers finish the weekend with a doubleheader tomorrow with game one beginning at 12:00 p.m. followed by game three at 3 p.m.
