Box Score LORMAN - It was senior night at the Davey L. Whitney Complex and the Lady Braves were trying to finished the regular season out with a win. The Lady Braves got 27 points from the bench was able to hold on to a 55-48 victory after a late scare by Prairie View.
Both teams went cold from the field in the first half and really didn't get going until midway through the first half but the Lady Braves held a slight lead on made free throws.
The Lady Braves built a nine-point lead. 21-12, on some good free throw shooting by
Anastasia Tuset with 3:59 to play in the first half.
Prairie View quickly closed the gap before the half going on a 6-1 run. The Lady Braves led 22-18 at the half.
Prairie View's Jeanette Jackson scored the first seven points to cut the Lady Braves lead to 26-24 at the 16:43 mark of the second half.
Seconds later Prairie View's Gabrielle Scott tied the game at 26-26 on a made jumper.
The game went back and forth for a while until the Lady Braves burst open an eight-point 40-32 lead led by
Misha Jones and
Ashtin McNichols with just under nine minutes to play.
But Jackson was determined to not go down without a fight scoring five consecutive points to cut the Lady Braves lead to 42-41 at 7:01 mark in the second half.
Back and forth both teams went for the next five and some change. Jones made a cluthch jumper in the paint to give the Lady Braves a 51-46 lead with .47 seconds to play.
Prairie View would score one more time but the Lady Braves made their free throws to close out the Lady Panthers for the night and celebrate the win.
Jones led the Lady Braves with 13 points and seven rebounds. McNichols and
Angelica Wilson-Reid each scored 11 points.
Jackson led the Lady Panthers with 21 points and six rebounds.
The Lady Braves draw Alabama A&M in the first round of the 2014 SWAC Basketball Tournament Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
