Free throws helped the Lady Braves overcome Mississippi Valley State down the stretch to pull off a 62-57 victory at Davey L. Whitney Complex.
The Lady Braves edged out to an early 10-3 lead with just over two minutes into the first half.
Mississippi Valley quickly cut the lead to 12-11 in the next four minutes.
Olivia Brown nailed a three-pointer minutes later to push the Lady Braves lead back to 17-11Â
With 7:19 to play in the first half,
Jazmin Strane made a layup to extend the Lady Braves to their largest lead of the game 25-14.
Mississippi Valley's Christina Reed nailed a three-pointer in the closing seconds of the first half to bring themselves within three points of the Lady Braves lead. Â The Lady Braves led 29-26 at the half.
Midway throught the second half,
Norianna Haynes made layup to give the Lady Braves their largest lead of the second half.
But the Devilettes kept charging back and eventually tied the game at 38-38 with 7:51 to play.
In the final minutes of the game the Lady Braves hit their free throws to pull off the win.
Haynes and Brown each collected 13 points while
Angelica Wilson-Reid scored 11 points to lead the Lady Braves.
The Lady Braves return to action on Monday as they plan to host Arkansas-Pine Bluff. Â Tip-off is scheduled for 5:30 p.m.Â
