Braves Face Texas Southern at Home in Tough SWAC Opener This Saturday

Head Coach Luther Riley and his Braves open up SWAC play at the Davey L. Whitney Complex against the Tigers of Texas Southern this Saturday at 5 p.m.

Fast Break Facts - Alcorn State
1.  The Braves are a rebounding machine on the offensive glass leading the SWAC in offensive rebounds with an average of 13.6 per game.
2.  Sophomore Marquis Vance has posted back-to-back double doubles in his last two games.  He scored 14 points and grabbed 10 rebounds against North Dakota State.  A week later he matched his career-high of 24 points and recorded new career-high 14 rebounds vs. Concordia (Selma).  He currently leads the SWAC in rebounds (7.5 rpg).
3.  Junior forward Leantwan Luckett returned to the court this past Tuesday after sitting out the entire Weststar Bank Don Hoskins Sun Bowl Invitational.  He scored a season-high 23 points and snatched down seven rebounds in his return.  He is curretly ranked second in the SWAC in scoring averaging 16.2 points per game.

Fast Break Facts - Texas Southern
1.  The month of December has been good for Head Coach Mike Davis and his Texas Southern Tigers after upsetting no. 25 Michigan State and Big 12 opponent Kansas State on their home floors.  The Tigers' victories were the first time any SWAC school has defeated a ranked opponent in over 20 years.
2.  Texas Southern has four players averaging in double-figures this season:  Chris Thomas (14.5 ppg), Madarious Gibbs (11.1 ppg), Deverell Biggs (10.1 ppg) and Jason Carter (10.0 ppg).
3.  In their last four contests, the Tigers have held their opponents to just 58.4 points per game. Those opponents include Michigan State, Auburn, Kansas State and New Mexico State.

Braves vs. Texas Southern Series
The Braves lead the all-time series against the Tigers 51-48 but the Tigers have closed the gap in since the Davey Whitney era ended.  Coach Riley is 0-7 versus the Tigers and the last time the Braves defeated the Tigers was on March 6, 2008, 74-70.
