Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Luckett's Game-High 26 Points Guides the Braves Past Prairie View 68-62

Redshirt-junior LeAntwan Luckett scores a game-high 26 points to help the Braves snap an eight-game losing streak and pick up their first SWAC win of the season over Prairie View 68-62.

This game was close knit throughout it's entirety.  The Braves opened up with 5-0 lead on a jumper by Tyrel Hunt and a three-pointer by Marquis Vance with just under 17:00 to play in the first half.

After going ahead 8-2, the Braves allowed the Panthers to regain the lead 12-10 at the 12:58 mark of the first half.

The Panthers maintained a tight lead until the 5:04 mark when Luckett finished a fast break with a layup to tie the game at 20-20.

The Braves went cold from the field for three minutes until George Thomas answered with a put back to put the Braves within three 25-22.

Prairie View led at the half, 29-23.

Four and half minutes into the second half,  Vance tied the game at 35-35 with a pair of free throws.

One minute later, Devonte Hampton knocked down a jumper to give the Braves their first lead of the second half, 37-35 with 14:23 to play.

Luckett extended the Braves lead to 43-38 on a slam dunk at the 11:03 mark of the second half.

A few plays later Hunt made a basket and one to give the Braves their largest lead of the game 46-38.

Prairie View wouldn't go away without a fight.  PV's John Brisco tied the game at 54-54 on a made jumper with 5:37 to play.

But the Braves made their free throws down the stretch despite making 25-of-37 on the night.  The Braves came through in the final minutes from the charity stripe going 12-for-12 to close the Panthers out.

Vance nearly posted his third double-double of the season scoring 18 points and grabbing nine rebounds.  Michael Davis had a solid game scoring in double figures for the first time this season with 10 points and three steals.

The Braves face Jackson State on Saturday for their first SWAC road game of the season.  Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. following the women's game.
