Norianna Haynes scored 20 points while
Olivia Brown chipped in 16 points as the Lady Braves capture their first SWAC victory of the season over Prairie View 68-46 tonight at the Davey L. Whitney Complex.
The Lady Braves came out with a chip on their shoulder jumping out to an 18-8 lead. Â
Later on in the first half, Brown hit an off-balance jumper to give the Lady Braves a 27-10 lead with 5:17 to play in the half.
Zhane Stigler banked a shot high off the glass for the Lady Braves just before the half. Â The Lady Braves took a 35-17 lead into the locker room.
Prairie View came out firing to go on a 10-3 run to slightly cut into the Lady Braves lead 38-27.
But the Lady Braves didn't slack up at all. Â Brown and
Misha Jones hit back-to-back jumpers in 35 seconds to give the Lady Braves a 15-point margin, 46-31 with 13:00 minutes to play.
Jones helped put Prairie View away with a layup. Â Prairie View never got within 10 points in the second half.
The Lady Braves got 22 points from their bench and scored 12 second chance points.
Jazmin Strane collected her third straight double-digit rebound game with 12 while adding six points. Â
Jeanette Jackson led Prairie View with 20 points and Alexus Parker added 10 points.
With the win the Lady Braves move to 2-9 overall and 1-1 in SWAC play with a showdown on Saturday at Jackson State. Â Tip-off between the Lady Braves and Lady Tigers is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.Â
