Box Score BATON ROUGE, La - Alcorn State University dropped three straight sets (25-9, 25-16, 25-23) in the opening round of the 2015 Southwestern Athletic Conference Women's Volleyball Tournament, at the Horace H. Moody Intramural Center on the campus of Southern University.
The Lady Tigers pounced on Alcorn early with a quick and decisive opening set victory. In the second set, the Lady Braves were able to give the Lady Tigers a fight. TSU was able to break an 8-8 tie, scoring eight of the next ten points. The Lady Tigers kept the Lady Braves at bay and curtail a comeback attempt with an 8-2 offensive run to take set two 25-16.
The third set saw a bit of seesaw action. The Lady Braves were able to jump to a 14-9 lead, but the lead would soon diminish after the Lady Tigers went on a 7-2 run to tie the game at 16. With both teams tied at 21, the Lady Tigers put the Lady Braves away and into the loser bracket with a 4-2 run to close the game 25-23.
The Lady Braves were not able to overcome their mistakes, committing 23 errors.
HEATHER JACKSON led the Lady Braves with five kills.
CAROL KIAM-ASSATO led the Braves with nine kills.
The Lady Braves will face Prairie View, who lost to Alabama State 3-1.
