JACKSON, Ms. – On the night the Jackson State University Tigers celebrated five of their seniors, the Tigers secured the #1 seed in the upcoming Southwestern Athletic Conference Tournament by defeating the Alcorn State University Braves 3-0 (25-8, 25-12, 25-19).
After surrendering two quick points to the Lady Braves, the Tigers pounced hard and fast, going on a 10-1 run.
The Lady Braves struggled to muster any offense, committing seven errors and a -.179 attack percentage in the first set.
The Tigers used runs of 7 and 6 straight points to put away Alcorn in the first set.
In the second set, the Tigers jumped out to a 12-3 advantage. The Lady Braves' offensive woes continued when they committed three kills, six errors, and an attacking percentage of -.115.
The third set was a bit more competitive, the Lady Braves jumped to a 4-2 lead, before the Lady Tigers went on a 9-2 run. The Lady Braves was able to get within three points (19-22), before the Tigers finished the match on a three point run.
The Lady Braves will spend a week off before finishing the season at home Nov. 14, which is senior night.
