Outfielder Earl Burl went a remarkable 5-for-5 from the plate tonight as the Braves picked up their second win of the season against Grambling 15-10 on day two of the MLB Urban Youth Invitational in New Orleans.
Colton Laird got the Braves going in the DH slot hitting a double to left-center field. Â Burl stepped in next and hit a triple to right-center field to score Laird and the Braves were ahead 1-0. Â
Collin Carroll would single to score Burl to give the Braves a 2-0 lead.
Grambling tied the game after scoring a run in the second and third innings. Â Burl recorded his second RBI of the game on a single to score
Moses Charles from second base.
The Tigers would tie the game again in the fourth inning before the Braves regained the lead in the fifth on a lead off homerun by Burl (1st of the season) to make the score 4-3.
In the top of the sixth, the Braves gave up a three RBI homerun by the Tigers which gave them a 7-4 lead. Â But the Braves collected three in the bottom of the sixth led by Scottie Peavey's homerun (1st of the season).
After a scoreless seventh inning by the Tigers, the Braves put together a huge inning in the bottom of the seventh by scoring seven runs. Â
Shaquille Cockrell singled to left field followed by Charles RBI single to score Cockrell. Â
Colton Laird took one for the team and Burl stepped in once again and connected on a RBI single to score Charles. Â
Ashton Lewis got into the action singling to the right side of the field to score Burl. Â Vives, who led the inning off with a groundout, recorded a single to score Peavey. Â
LaDerrick Williamsalso hit a single to score Lewis and the Braves closed out the inning leading 14-7.
The Tigers scored three runs in the eighth inning and the Braves scored their final run in the bottom of the eighth inning on a RBI single by
Collin Carroll.
Cedric Walker picked up his second win of the season (2-0). Â Burl finished the game with five hits, five RBIs and scored four runs to leadd the Braves.
The Braves (2-4) wrap up the weekend at the MLB Urban Youth Invitational tomorrow against Southern at noon.
