Braves Fall Short Tonight 73-69 to Alabama A&M

A late comeback by the Braves wasn't enough to slow down the visitors from Huntsville

Four of the Braves players scored in double figures tonight but Alabama A&M hit some clutch three-pointers and free throws down the stretch to knock off the Braves in their home finale 73-69.

George Thomas, who has been hot from beyond the three in the Braves last two games, came out firing away nailing two three-pointers to give the Braves a slight 8-7 lead.

But the Bulldogs would take complete control of the first half going up by as many as 11 points with 2:36 to play before the half.

Tamarcio Wilson helped the Braves cut the lead to six, 36-30, just before the half by scoring four of the last six points.

A&M held on to a comfortable lead until the Braves crept their way back into the game.  Tyrel Hunt raced down the floor to score four straight points to put th Braves within three, 54-51 with 10:54 to go but the Bulldogs answered the Braves charge.

The Braves weren't done yet when Thomas and LeAntwan Luckett both connected from downtown to get the lead down to 60-59.  After an missed jumper by A&M, Wilson found Luckett for a slam dunk to give the Braves their first lead since the 15:20 of the first half.

A&M tied the game at 61-61 on a pair of made free throws by Ladarius Tabb but Luckett hit a pair to increase the Braves lead to 63-61 with 3:25 to play.

Marquis Vance gave the Braves their largerst lead of the second half 64-61, after making 1-of-2 free throws.

A couple of free throws by A&M cut the lead to 64-63 but Justin Colvin nailed a long three-pointer to regain the lead for the Bulldogs 66-64 with 1:44 left.

Colvin would connect again 20 seconds later to increased the Bulldogs lead to 69-65.

Luckett made a running layup to cut the lead to 69-67 with .38 seconds left on the clock.  The Bulldogs made some clutch free throws to secure the win and give the Braves their fourth consecutive loss.

Luckett led the Braves with 22 points.  Thomas and Vance each scored 13 points while Tyrel Hunt chipped in 12 points on the night.

The Braves travel to Baton Rouge this weekend for a crucial game against the Southern Jaguars.  Tip-off is scheduled for 5:00 p.m. following the women's game.
