Braves Complete Weekend Sweep Against Mississippi Valley in Seven Innings

Yesterday, the Braves earned the fourth seed for the 2015 SWAC Baseball Tournament.  But this afternoon was bittersweet for the Braves as they swept Mississippi Valley 3-0 with a 13-3 victory today in seven innings.

Earl Burl III led off with a single to left field in the bottom of the first inning after the Braves gave up a run in the top half.  Two batters later, Carrol singled in Burl to tie the game at 1-1.  Scottie Peavey would score later on an error to give the Braves a 2-1 lead after one.

The Braves went to work in the second inning by scoring six runs.  LaDerrick Williams got on with a lead off single to center field.  Next, Robert Fletcher hit a single to advance Williams to third.  Burl III stepped in next and hit a triple to center field to score Williams and Fletcher and the Braves were now up 4-1.  Carroll singled in Burl III once again and Peavey scored on a sacrifice fly by Dervincent Hamilton to push the Braves lead to 6-1.  Moses Charles collected his first triple of the season scoring Carroll to make the score 7-1.  Nick Brooks hit a sacrifice fly to score Charles for the final run of the inning.

The Delta Devils scored one run in the top of the third inning but the Braves came away with a run in the bottom half on a sacrifice fly by Burl III.

Carroll led off the bottom of the fourth with a double.  Hamilton followed with double of his own to score Carroll.  Brandon Vega got into the action on a fielder's choice RBI to score Hamilton and the Braves now led 11-3.

Two more run in the sixth inning secured the 10-run rule for the Braves.

Burl III finished the game with two hits, two runs and three RBIs.  Carroll collected three hits, scored two runs and picked up two RBIs.

The Braves (14-37) return to action on Tuesday as they travel to Louisiana to face Grambling State.
