Volleyball kicks-off the season at the Marriott Houston Westchase Invitational

Houston- The Alcorn State women's volleyball team opens the 2015 season at the Marriott Houston Westchase Invitational hosted by Houston Baptist University (HBU) in Houston, Texas. The lady Braves will face Houston Baptist at 7 p.m. to start their season.

The two day, round-robin tournament features Louisiana Tech, University of Texas Rio Grande Valley (UTRGV), and HBU. Alcorn will open the round-robin versus the HBU Huskies at 7 p.m. at Sharp Gym. On Saturday, the Lady Braves will face Louisiana Tech at 12 p.m. and UTRGV at 4 p.m.

"Playing in this tournament will help us in the long run, to prepare us for conference." Said Head Coach Jarquita Copeland.

Alcorn returns nine lady Braves, and six newcomers.

"They've gotten smarter and stronger. The team was able to gel and communicate. Their chemistry will help us a lot this season" said Coach Copeland
