Greenwood, Miss. – Alcorn State (1-4, 3-12) used a strong second half to defeat Mississippi Valley 81-66 in the Leflore County Civic Center, in Greenwood Miss., Saturday afternoon.
Head Coach Courtney recorded her first SWAC coaching win, on a day that four Lady Braves scored in double figures; led by
NORIANNA HAYNES' 21 points.
In a game that began with a back and forth tussle, through three quarters, the fourth quarter was all Alcorn. Alcorn State went into the fourth quarter leading 63-56. Haynes exploded for 12 points, Tori Spann recorded two steals, and three assists.
The Lady Braves defense turned it up a notch on defense, holding MVSU to 16 percent shooting in the fourth quarter. The Devilettes shot 37.9 for the game. Alcorn recorded a season high 17 steals, and out rebounded Mississippi Valley 52-44.
Offensively, Alcorn State recorded several season highs, despite shooting .387 percent , the 29 field goals made, 81 points scored, and 29 offensive rebounds were all a season highs.
