PRAIRIE VIEW, TEXAS - The Alcorn State Lady Braves' (2-9,0-1) fourth quarter comeback, fell short to the Prairie View Lady Panthers (6-5,1-0) dropping their conference opener 56-52 Saturday night in Prairie View.

The Lady Braves came out strong, scoring the first ten points of the game. Alcorn's defense gave Prairie View fits in the first six minutes of the game. The Lady Panthers made some adjustments and went on a 14-2 run to end the first quarter, taking a 14-12 lead.

The second quarter was a defensive battle. The Lady Braves and Panthers both struggle on the floor shooting 21.4% and 30.8% respectively. JAZMIN STRANE was strong on the boards in the second quarter securing six rebounds (3 offense, and 3 defense). The Lady Braves went into intermission down 22-20.

NORIANNA HAYNES, led the Lady Braves in the first half, scoring 12 points and recording two rebounds and a steal.

The Lady Panthers' defense gave Alcorn State trouble; The Lady Braves committed 13 first half turnovers, Prairie View's aggressive defensive unit recorded 10 first half steals.

Alcorn tied the game twice at the start of the third quarter, before Prairie View went on a 19-9 run to take a 10 point lead into the fourth.

The Lady Panthers built a 12 point lead with 3:22 on the clock, when Alcorn went on an 8-1 run to cut the lead to five points with 1:33. The Lady Braves, traded baskets the rest of the way with PV, ending the game four points short.

Haynes led all scorers, dropping 21 points, she also recorded six rebounds. Strane led Alcorn with 13 rebounds. Wells led all defenders with four blocks. The Lady Braves out rebounded PV 46-49. PV defense recorded 13 steals. ASHTIN MCNICHOLS and Tori Spann scored in double digits (10 and 11 respectively).

Alcorn State will head to Houston, to face Texas Southern (6-6,1-0) on Monday, January 4th. The game time has changed to 4pm to accommodate ESPN coverage of the Men's Basketball game at 7PM.
