Alcorn State 4th Quarter comeback falls short

LORMAN, MS – Despite a fourth quarter rally by the Alcorn State University Lady Braves, the Jackson State University Lady Tigers managed to spoil their home opener with a 73-66 win.
 
The Lady Braves were not able to get their offense rolling. Despite pulling down 33 offensive rebounds, Alcorn could not take advantage of their second chances.
 
Despite the early struggles, Alcorn State was able to go on a 16-6 run in the fourth quarter and got within three points with 26 seconds left in the game. The Lady Tigers were able to escape wtih a 6-2 run to end the game.
 
Talisha Sherman came up big off the bench during the 16-2 run. Sherman scored 10 points, got two steals, and a rebound in the six-minute span. Sherman scored a season high and a game high 18 points and five steals.
 
NORIANNA HAYNES recorded her sixth double-double of the season, scoring 17 points and 15 rebounds. BRIANNA LUTON scored a season high 13 points.
 
HENRIETTA WELLS recorded four blocks for the fourth time this season. In conference play, Wells has recorded 13 blocks in three games.
 
Alcorn State will have one day to get over the heartbreaking loss. The Lady Braves will be back home to face a resurging Grambling State squad Monday, Jan. 10 at 5:30 PM.
