GRAMBLING, La. - The Alcorn State University women's soccer program will begin its five-match road swing Friday at Grambling State University. The tilt will feature a 3 p.m. start on Lady Tiger Field.
The Lady Braves (1-6, 1-4 SWAC) return to the pitch after dropping their past two matches against Prairie View A&M 4-2 and Texas Southern 3-0.Â
Sophomore striker Yaira Guardado found the net twice against the Lady Panthers. Guardado is in a two-way tie for second in goals per match during SWAC play, totaling five goals in as many games. Redshirt freshman Rita Okoro ranks second in shots per contest (4.8) and assisted Guardado on both goals versus Prairie View A&M.Â
The Lady Tigers (0-8, 0-6 SWAC) have scored four goals this season, two each from Savannah John and Jazmyne Lewis. Grambling has scored three of its four goals on its home grounds.Â
Alcorn will then travel to the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff for a Sunday showdown at 1 p.m. inside Pumphrey Stadium.Â
The UAPB Lady Tigers (3-6-1, 3-1-1 SWAC) have claimed SWAC victories over Alabama A&M, Southern and Prairie View A&M. UAPB's duo of Karissa Fenwick (3) and Rebecca Holmes (4) have combined for seven of the team's 13 goals this season.
