BATON ROUGE, La. - The Alcorn State University volleyball program is hoping to halt its three-match losing streak Friday in a 2 p.m. Southwestern Athletic Conference match against Southern University inside Clifford Seymour Gym.
Alcorn's skid has come by the hands of Jackson State, Prairie View A&M and Texas Southern, three of the top five teams in the SWAC standings. The Lady Jaguars (6-11, 5-4 SWAC) currently sit in third place.
The Lady Braves (2-15, 1-7 SWAC) dropped a straight-set decision to the Lady Jaguars on Sept. 23 inside the Davey L. Whitney Complex.
SU's Paige (10 kills) and Arabella Hall (nine blocks, eight kills) proved to be major factors in that contest.
The Lady Jaguars have relied heavily on Arabella Hall's 2.5 kills per set and Paige Hall's 1.1 blocks per set during SWAC play.
Freshman Barbara Garrett spearheaded Alcorn's attack with eight kills. Garrett has shuffled between outside hitter and middle blocker as injuries continue to plague the Lady Braves.
Junior Lurlethia Jones added seven kills on an impressive .500 clip. Senior libero Carol Kiam-Assato recorded 20 digs. Kiam-Assato's 4.1 digs per set output in SWAC matches ranks fourth.
