Breast Cancer Awareness Match Highlights Lady Braves Homestand

LORMAN, Miss. - The Davey L. Whitney Complex will be covered in pink Friday as the Alcorn State University volleyball squad will face off with the University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a 6 p.m. match aimed at increasing breast cancer awareness.

Fans are encouraged to wear pink. Vendors will available for additional information about breast cancer awareness in the front lobby of the gym.

The Lady Braves (2-16, 1-8 SWAC) are back on the right track, taking a set in their most recent match against Southern after being swept in the previous three.

Freshman Barbara Garrett tallied a match-high 13 kills at a .281 attacking percentage, her highest mark since the first contest of the season. Junior Brittney Dumas also added eight kills.

Senior libero Carol Kiam-Assato's 20 digs equaled Preseason All-SWAC First Team defensive specialist Diamond Williams' count.

The Lady Lions (4-14, 4-7 SWAC) have split their past six conference matches dating back to a 3-1 victory over Alcorn Oct. 1. UAPB's Lauren Corby totaled a match-high 12 kills. She was also one of four Lady Lions with 10-plus digs as the scrappy Lady Lions limited the Lady Braves attack to a .022 clip.

This match will be available via live stream.

Alcorn will also face Grambling in a 10 a.m. tilt Saturday inside the Whitney Complex.

The last meeting resulted in a Lady Tigers (5-12, 3-8 SWAC) sweep. Grambling's Kevrion Ward, who spearheads the squad with 2.2 kills per set, earned 10 kills.

Both games can be followed through live stats here.
