Lady Braves Conclude Home Slate against Prairie View, Texas Southern

LORMAN, Miss. - The Alcorn State University soccer team will play its final two home games of the regular season this weekend when it hosts Prairie View A&M Friday and Texas Southern Sunday inside Jack Spinks-Marino Casem Stadium.

The Lady Braves (1-4, 1-2 SWAC) face the Lady Panthers (1-9, 1-2 SWAC) at 3 p.m. and duel the Lady Tigers (5-5-1, 3-0-1 SWAC) in a 2 p.m. match for Senior Day.

Alcorn sophomore Yaira Guardado was named SWAC Soccer Player of the Week Tuesday for her stellar performances last week versus Southern and Jackson State. Guardado netted two goals and notched an assist as the Lady Braves bested the Lady Jags 4-2 in their first win since 2013.

Redshirt freshman Rita Okoro added a goal late on Southern to put the match out of reach. Senior Comfort Agyei also contributed a score against the Lady Jaguars, skillfully tapping in a cross from Guardado.

Guardado and Okoro were the goalscorers during the 4-2 loss to Jackson State.

PVAMU's lone win came in a 2-1 overtime thriller over Grambling. Freshman Blair Lane has accounted for two of the Lady Panthers six goals.

TSU has defeated Alabama A&M, Alabama State and Grambling State en route to its unblemished SWAC record. The Lady Tigers also tied Arkansas-Pine Bluff 1-1. TSU's dynamic duo consisting of Paige Hayward (6) and Kailand Thompson (4) have tallied 10 of TSU's 15 goals.
