Lady Braves Look to Send Seniors Off on High Note

LORMAN, Miss. - The Alcorn State University volleyball program will host its final two home games of the 2016 season Friday and Saturday against Prairie View A&M University and Texas Southern University, respectively, at the Davey L. Whitney Complex.

The contest against the Lady Panthers (8-16, 7-7 SWAC) will commence at 4:30 p.m., and the Senior Day match versus the Lady Tigers (16-10, 12-2 SWAC) features a 1 p.m. first serve.

Both of the Lady Braves' (2-20, 1-12 SWAC) opponents rank in the Top 5 of the SWAC. Prairie View ranks fifth, and TSU ranks second with its only two losses coming against top-ranked Alabama State (14-0 SWAC).

Alcorn was swept by both opponents on a road swing earlier this season.

The Lady Braves committed 25 attacking errors alongside 17 kills against the Lady Panthers as they were swept 25-12, 25-9, 25-9. Taylor Goudeau's match-high 11 kills and Calli Jorden Hensch's eight complimented by a .667 attacking percentage led Prairie View to victory.

Alcorn had a similar result against the Lady Tigers, making 25 attacking errors including seven on TSU blocks. Freshman Barbara Garrett fired a match-high 10 kills on a .240 attacking percentage, but the rest of the squad swung at a -.204 (10-21-54) clip.

The Lady Braves dropped their most recent match against Mississippi Valley State University. Garrett totaled a team-high 12 kills. She has led the Alcorn attack in 13 games this season.

Senior libero Carol Kiam-Assato notched a match-high 27 digs against the Devilettes. Kiam-Assato's 4.4 digs per set during SWAC matches ranks third among defensive specialists within the conference.

The Lady Braves' regular season will conclude at Alabama A&M and Alabama State Monday and Tuesday, respectively.
