TUCSON, Ariz. – The Alcorn State University women's basketball program is looking to avenge its season-opening loss in a 3 p.m. contest against the University of Arizona at the McKale Center.
"The ladies were very disheartened by yesterday's game," said head coach Courtney Pruitt. "I feel it was a great learning lesson for them moving forward in preparation for Arizona."
The Lady Braves (0-1) committed 26 turnovers in their season-opening 77-44 defeat to Grand Canyon University.
Junior
Tia Sanders collected 12 points and six rebounds in her first career game with Alcorn.
Senior
Henrietta Wells grabbed 11 boards against the Lopes, marking the third instance in her career with 10-plus rebounds. The Lady Braves outrebounded GCU 43-38.
The Wildcats (0-0) and first-year head coach Adia Barnes are coming off of a 77-48 exhibition win over Western New Mexico where four student student-athletes scored in double figures. Dejza James recorded a double-double, totaling 14 points and 12 rebounds.
Arizona finished with a 13-19 (3-15 Pac 12) record last season and return four starters including its two top scorers, LaBrittney Jones and Malena Washington.
