LORMAN, Miss. - The Alcorn State University women's basketball program will look to build on its past two performances in a 5:30 p.m. bout against the University of Central Arkansas Thursday at the Davey L. Whitney Complex.

"When you play two bigger schools, including Arizona which is in a Power 5, you're not supposed to be able to compete with those types of schools," said head women's basketball coach Courtney Pruitt. "The positive going into tomorrow's game is that we're competing at a high level."
The Lady Braves (0-2) were tied at 16 with Arizona, their most recent opponent, after the first 11 minutes of play despite falling to the Wildcats.
"We lost by 15 to Arizona but missed 21 free throws," said Pruitt. "We have to make those free throws and do those little things. I like the direction in which we're headed but we've got to curb a lot of foes that we have. We are rebounding the ball very well."
Alcorn is averaging 43.0 rebounds per game which currently ranks third in the SWAC.
Juniors Tia Sanders (13) and Alexus Freeman (10) and sophomore Brianna Tolliver (11) all registered double-digit scoring performances during the Lady Braves hard-fought 74-59 battle against Arizona. Freeman nearly recorded her first career double-double, adding nine rebounds along with four assists and three steals.
Sanders has spearheaded Alcorn in scoring during their first two games.
Senior Henrietta Wells totaled nine rebounds, six points and three blocks. It marked the 17th contest where she recorded three or more blocks.
This will mark the second time the Lady Braves and Sugar Bears (1-1) face off during the Pruitt ERA.
After winning the Southland Conference last season with a 16-2 league record, UCA was picked second behind Abilene Christian in both the coaches and sports information directors preseason SLC polls.
Senior guards Maggie Proffitt (first team) and Brianna Mullins (second team) were named to Preseason All-SLC squads.
Proffitt was named SLC Player of the Week after her 22-point performance at No. 23 Texas A&M. She also totaled 15 points, four rebounds and three assists in a 71-39 UCA's victory over Hendrix.
Mullins notched a double-double against Hendrix, accumulating 13 points and 10 rebounds in 27 minutes of play. She also dished out five assists and committed no turnovers.

- Newcomer starting trio Tia Sanders (25), Alexus Freeman (16) and Miracle Rushing (10) have accounted for approximately 50 percent (51-of-103) of Alcorn's offensive output this season
- In addition to being the leading scorer, Sanders has also proven as a three-point shooting threat, converting 5-of-16 treys (.313)
- Wells secured 11 rebounds against GCU, marking the third double-digit rebound performance of her career.
