Alcorn Begins Long Road Stretch Sunday at Colorado State

Alcorn Game Notes

FORT COLLINS, Colo. – Over the course of 30 days, the Alcorn State University men's basketball program will be away from home beginning with a 1 p.m. (CT) tip Sunday against Colorado State at Moby Arena.

In addition to CSU (4-1), the Braves (2-2) will play road games at San Francisco, California, Louisiana Tech, Georgia Tech and Grand Canyon before returning home on Thursday, Dec. 22 to host Rust College.

Alcorn is coming off back-to-back home wins over Selma 93-48 and Blue Mountain 83-57. The Braves never trailed in either game and won their home opener for the sixth year in a row. Alcorn shot a season-high .558 (29-52) as a team from the field against BMC.

Senior Marquis Vance surpassed 1,000 career points Tuesday against Blue Mountain with a game-high 23. He averages team-highs of 16.3 points and 8.0 rebounds on the year.

Also averaging in double-figures for the Braves are juniors Reginal Johnson and Avery Patterson. Johnson posts 11.5 points and 6.5 rebounds per outing, while Patterson has poured in 14 points in each of the last two games after missing the first pair.

The Rams are riding a five-game home winning streak. They've defeated New Mexico State 64-61, Fort Lewis 84-75, Maryland Eastern Shore 76-65 and Southeastern Louisiana 67-59 this year. Their only loss came at Stanford 56-49 on Nov. 20.

CSU is led by Emmanuel Omogbo who averages a double-double with 13.2 points and 11.8 rebounds per outing. Che Bob is also a heavy contributor with 11.6 points and 8.2 rebounds per contest off the bench. The Rams stick with a small rotation of players as only nine have even recorded minutes this season.

The game will be streamed online on the Mountain West Network.

NOTES
- The Braves are looking for their first non-conference win over a Division I school since Nov. 22, 2012 when they defeated Samford 69-65. Prior to that, the Braves beat Jacksonville State 70-68 on Dec. 13, 2003 and UTEP 67-53 on Nov. 26, 2002.

- Vance currently ranks first in the SWAC in defensive rebounds (6.0 drpg), second in blocks (1.5 bpg) and third in scoring (16.3 ppg), rebounding (8.0 rpg), field goal percentage (.535) and three-point field goal percentage (.500).

- On the season, the Braves lead the SWAC in scoring defense (64.0 ppg), scoring margin (+5.8), field goal percentage (.438), rebounding offense (41.8), rebounding defense (31.5), rebounding margin (+10.2), assists (15.8 apg) and three-pointers mage (7.3 3pg).

- Alcorn has not been outrebounded in a game this season.

- Johnson is coming off three consecutive double-figure scoring games.  He ranks second in the league in field goal percentage (.564) and fourth in offensive rebounds (3.3 orpg). He's been used primarily as Alcorn's sixth man so far this year.

- Patterson has been red-hot from long-distance as he's five-for-seven from beyond-the-arc.

- Another hot three-point shooter for the Braves has been freshman Maurice Howard. He's made 8-of-16 attempts and has started every game.

- The Braves have been playing without starting center senior DeAndre Davis due to a hand injury. Davis finished third in the SWAC in both field goal percentage (.584) and offensive rebounding (2.5 orpg) last season.
