CONWAY, Ark. - The Alcorn State University will face off with the University of Central Arkansas for the second time this season Tuesday at the Farris Center with a 5:30 p.m. tip scheduled.
The first matchup ended in a 71-57 Sugar Bears (3-1) victory where Lady Braves (0-5) senior forward Brianna Luton dropped 19 points and missed just one shot all night. Fellow senior Henrietta Wells also contributed her first career double-double on 10 points and 11 rebounds.Â
UCA was spearheaded by Taylor Strickland and Maggie Proffitt with 22 and 18 points, respectively. Taylor Baudoin also scored in double digits, tallying 11. The Sugar Bears outscored Alcorn in the paint 36-14.
The Lady Braves are looking to get back on track after dropping two contests in the Lady Eagle Thanksgiving Classic this past weekend.Â
Junior Tia Sanders dropped 11 and 16 points against USM and Southeast Missouri State, respectively, to front Alcorn's offense. Junior Miracle Rushing matched Sanders' 11 against the Lady Eagles while Wells also totaled 16 versus the Redhawks.Â
The SEMO game was highlighted by Rushing's 16 rebounds, the most in a game by any Southwestern Athletic Conference female student-athlete this season.Â
UCA is coming off of an 82-32 victory over Williams Baptist where four players scored in double figures, including Baudoin (17) and Proffitt (13).Â
