LORMAN, Miss. - The Alcorn State University women's basketball program will face off against Jacksonville State University Tuesday at the Davey L. Whitney Complex with a 5:30 p.m. tip scheduled.

The Lady Braves (0-7) are looking for their first win in the 2016-17 campaign after scheduling a tough pre-SWAC slate that included two Power 5 schools and preseason Southland Conference favorite University of Central Arkansas.Â
Despite a loss to Alabama in its most recent contest, Alcorn received double-digit scoring performances from seniors Brianna Luton (11) and Talisa Sherman (10). Sherman's 10 points marked a season high for the Richland, Mississippi, native.Â
The Lady Braves' top-two rebounders, senior Henrietta Wells and junior Miracle Rushing, and top scorer, junior Tia Sanders, fouled out during the contest.
The Rushing/Wells duo has given Alcorn a 1-2 punch to rely on in the paint. Rushing's 8.0 rebounds and Wells' 3.4 blocks per contest each rank atop the SWAC.Â
Alcorn is hoping to halt the Gamecocks (5-4) three-game winning streak. Senior guard Briana Benson has led the team's scoring effort in each game during the run, capped by a 19-point outing during the squad's 64-57 win over Savannah State University.Â
The all-time series between the two teams stands at 1-1. JSU eked out a 67-65 victory last season. The Lady Braves got a 61-58 win in the first-ever meeting in 2004.
