Alcorn Wraps-Up Road Stretch at Georgia Tech, Grand Canyon

ATLANTA – To conclude a six-game road swing, the Alcorn State University men's basketball program will head to McCamish Pavilion on Sunday to take on Georgia Tech at 1 p.m. (CT), followed by an 8 p.m. (CT) contest against Grand Canyon at GCU Arena on Tuesday.
 
Alcorn's (2-6) contest against the Yellow Jackets (5-3) will be nationally televised on ESPN3. The game can be heard via radio on 91.7 WPRL FM with Charles Edmond as the voice of the Braves.
 
In Alcorn's last outing which was nearly two weeks ago, it dropped a 98-65 decision at Louisiana Tech. Junior Reginal Johnson recorded a career-high 25 points, including 19 in the second half and also grabbed seven rebounds.
 
Johnson is the team's leading scorer (14.6 ppg) and rebounder (6.8 rpg). As the team's "sixth-man", he ranks fourth in the SWAC in both field goal percentage (.536) and offensive rebounds (2.6 orpg). He's also fifth in scoring and seventh in rebounding.
 
Senior Marquis Vance ranks second on the squad in scoring and rebounding with 12.8 points and 6.6 rebounds per contest. He ranks second in the conference in blocks (1.3 bpg), fourth in defensive rebounds (5.0 drpg), fifth in three-point percentage (.414), eighth in rebounding and ninth in assists (2.4 apg).
 
Also averaging in double-figures for the Braves, senior Denzel Dulin puts in 10.9 points per contest. He ranks top-10 in the league in free throw percentage with a .771 mark. Dulin made 13 against Colorado State; it's the most by any student-athlete in a single-game this year in the SWAC. He scored a career-high 20 points in the game which upped his previous best of 16 set in the game before against Blue Mountain.
 
Georgia Tech most recently survived a 76-73 overtime battle at VCU on Dec. 7. The Yellow Jackets also have wins this season over Tennessee Tech, Southern, Ohio, Sam Houston State and Tulane. Their losses came against Ohio, Penn State and Tennessee.
 
Ben Lammers averages a double-double for Georgia Tech with 15.8 points and 10.8 rebounds per outing. Josh Okogie scores 15.3 points per game, while Tadric Jackson and Quinton Stephens add-in 12.6 and 11.8 points per contest, respectively.
 
Grand Canyon holds a 5-5 record, but three of its losses were against top-20 opponents (No. 1 Duke, No. 14 Louisville and No. 19 Arizona). The Lopes carry victories over Albany, Marist, Coppin State, San Diego State and UIC.
 
The Lopes are led by one of the nation's top scorers in DeWayne Russell who pours in 24.6 points per game while shooting .400 from three-point range. Joshua Braun aids the attack with 14.5 points per contest.
 
GCU will host Mississippi Valley State on Saturday before welcoming the Braves.
 
NOTES
- Alcorn has a 30-day layover between home games and will return to the Davey L. Whitney Complex on Thursday, Dec. 22 at 2 p.m. against Rust College. Vance will be honored before the game as Alcorn's newest member of the 1,000-point club.
 
- During the six-game road swing, the Braves will play games in four different time zones (pacific, mountain, central and eastern time).
 
- The Braves are looking for their first non-conference win over a Division I school since Nov. 22, 2012 when they defeated Samford 69-65. Prior to that, the Braves beat Jacksonville State 70-68 on Dec. 13, 2003 and UTEP 67-53 on Nov. 26, 2002.
 
- Johnson has increased his scoring during every game of the road trip. He started it off with 14 points at Colorado State and followed it up with 15 at San Francisco, 17 at Cal and 25 at LA Tech. His 25 points surpassed his previous career-best of 22 set at Grambling State on March 10, 2015. It was the third time in his career that he made a trio of three-pointers in a single game.
 
- On the season, Alcorn leads the SWAC in blocks (4.1 bpg), assists (13.4 apg) and assist:turnover ratio (+1.0). The Braves are second in the conference in defensive rebounds (24.8 drpg) and defensive rebounding percentage (.747).
 
- Johnson has scored in double-digits in seven consecutive games. Vance has reached double-figures in eight of the last nine contests dating back to last season.
 
- Prior to the road trip beginning, Alcorn notched back-to-back home wins over Selma 93-48 and Blue Mountain 83-57. The Braves never trailed in either game and won their home opener for the sixth year in a row. Alcorn shot a season-high .558 (29-52) as a team from the field against BMC.
 
- The Braves have been playing without starting center senior DeAndre Davis due to a hand injury. Davis finished third in the SWAC in both field goal percentage (.584) and offensive rebounding (2.5 orpg) last season.
