Lady Braves Wind Down Non-Conference Play at Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas - With just three non-conference games left, the Alcorn State University women's basketball program will travel to Texas Tech University to face the Lady Raiders Sunday in a 3 p.m. contest at United Supermarkets Arena. 

The Lady Braves dropped a 70-66 decision in its most recent game against Jacksonville State. Junior Alexus Freeman totaled a career-best 15 points and seven made free throws. Junior Tia Sanders followed with 14 while fellow junior Miracle Rushing rounded out the double-digit scoring with a career-high 12 points and six field goals. 

Senior Talisa Sherman provided valuable minutes off the bench against the Gamecocks, scoring eight points on 3-of-3 shooting in 17 minutes.

Freeman and Sanders notched five steals apiece, contributing to a season-high 16 takeaways for a Lady Braves squad that forced 28 turnovers.

The Lady Raiders are 6-3 on the season and have won three of their last four.

Recee Caldwell (17.8 ppg) fronts a three-headed scoring attack alongside Arella Guirantes (14.7) and Jada Terry (13.7).

Caldwell has drained 31 three-pointers this season, good for 3.4 per contest which ranks 10th in Division I. Terry has four double-doubles, which ties for first in the Big 12.

Texas Tech holds a 2-0 series advantage against Alcorn. The last contest between the two schools was on Nov. 24, 2007 when the Lady Raiders won 90-55.
