FORT WORTH, Texas - For the third time in the last four games, the Alcorn State University women's basketball squad will face a Power 5 program when it squares off with TCU Tuesday night at Schollmaier Arena with a 6:30 p.m. CT tip scheduled.
Despite an 0-9 record to start the season, the Lady Braves have reasons to be optimistic. Alcorn molded a tough early season schedule in order to be properly battle-tested for conference play.Â
As the Lady Braves leading scorer, junior Tia Sanders has scored in double figures in seven of the first nine games, fronting Alcorn in five. Fellow junior Miracle Rushing's 16 rebounds against Southeastern Missouri State still marks the highest by a SWAC female student-athlete this season. Additionally, senior Henrietta Wells continues to lead the league with 2.9 blocks per contest.Â
The Lady Braves have also outscored five of its nine opponents in second-chance points.Â
The Horned Frogs are 7-3 on the season and have won their last two. TCU bested SWAC schools Grambling State and Texas Southern earlier this season by an average margin of 32.5.Â
The Frogs have four student-athlete averaging double figures, fronted by Amy Okonkwo (11.7). TCU stands second in the Big 12 in three-pointers made per game (8.4) and percentage from beyond the arc (42.4), the latter ranks third in Division I.Â
