BERKELEY, Calif. – California made 30-of-58 shot attempts from the field to earn an 83-59 result over the Alcorn State men's basketball program Saturday in front of a crowd of 8,257 at Haas Pavilion.

The Braves (2-5) were led by junior
Reginal Johnson's season-high 17 points and seven rebounds, both were team highs. Senior
Marquis Vance also reached double-figures with 11 points.

Ivan Rabb had the hot hand for the Bears (6-1) with 26 points on 10-of-12 shooting and seven rebounds. Moute a Bidias pitched in with 12 points and Don Coleman scored 10.

Alcorn held a few leads early, started by a three-pointer by Vance to go up 3-2. A jumper by senior
Denzel Dulin kept the Braves on top 8-7 at the 16:31 mark.

The Braves trailed 12-10 when the Bears used an 11-3 spurt to jump ahead 23-13 with 10:45 left in the half. Cal extended its edge to 34-19 with five minutes remaining, and catapulted ahead 44-25 going into the break.

Alcorn couldn't get its deficit below 19 in the second half. Cal shot 14-for-25 (.560) in the frame. The Braves saw three-pointers go in from Vance and junior
A.J. Mosby.

The Braves will have a quick turnaround coming up as they travel to Louisiana Tech (4-3) on Monday for a 6:30 p.m. tip at the Thomas Assembly Center on Karl Malone Court. The Bulldogs posted an 88-59 victory over Southeastern Louisiana on Saturday.

- The Braves played their third of a six-game road stretch. Alcorn has a 30-day layover between home games. During the six-game road swing, the Braves will play games in four different time zones (pacific, mountain, central and eastern time).

- Johnson registered his 25th career double-figure scoring game and sixth in a row. He upped his season-high for the third straight contest after scoring 14 at Colorado State and 15 at San Francisco. Johnson has grabbed at least five rebounds in every game this season.

- Johnson now becomes Alcorn's leading rebounder with 6.7 per game, and is tied with Vance as the team's scoring leader with 13.1 points per contest.
- Vance recorded his sixth double-figure scoring game in the last seven outings dating back to last season. It was his 56th double-digit affair in his career.

- Dulin was a perfect four-for-four from the free throw line. It increased his season average up to .771 (27-35) which is a team best.

- The Braves shook up their starting lineup a little bit with junior
Avery Patterson and freshman
Devon Brewer making their first career starts.

- Alcorn outscored Cal in points off the bench, 31-22.
