Baseball drops season opener to New Orleans

Box Score

NEW ORLEANS -- Alcorn State stayed close early but four pitchers allowed 18 hits in a 12-3 season-opening loss Friday night against the University of New Orleans at First NBC Ballpark.

LaDerick Williams hit a solo home run, Walter Rios and COLLIN CARROLL each had two hits and ASHTON LEWIS drove in two runs for the Braves. But with the score tied at 1 in the fourth inning, starter GEORGE HELBIG (0-1) gave up back-to-back home runs to put the Privateers (1-0) ahead for good. UNO proceeded to score nine runs over the next three frames against the Alcorn bullpen to put the game out of reach.
