GRAMBLING, La. - The Braves of Alcorn State University (8-3, 10-12) defeated the Tigers of Grambling State University (3-8, 6-17) 66-63 Saturday night, in Grambling, Louisiana.
Alcorn State's Octavious Brown got the night started with a baseline jumper, assisted by Devonte Hampton. Alcorn began the game on a 21-10 run. The Braves continued to extend their lead to 13 on Malachi Onwudiegwu's free-throws to take a 37-24 lead, with three minutes remaining in the first half.
However, Grambling was able to hang around and keep pace with Alcorn, shrinking the lead to just three with a three-pointer with eleven seconds left. Alcorn State sealed the deal with two consecutive free throws.
TAMARCIO WILSON led the Braves with 20 points, two rebounds, and three assists. Brown added 15 points and eight rebounds. Reginal Johnson came off the bench and contributed eight points and five defensive rebounds.
Alcorn out-rebounded GSU 30 to 26. Alcorn State shot 57% in the second half while holding the Tigers to 41% shooting overall while shooting 50% for the game.
The Braves head back to Lorman, Mississippi to face Mississippi Valley, on Saturday, Feb. 13th.
