GRAMBLING, La. - Alcorn State's NORIANNA HAYNES notched her seventh double-double to lift the Lady Braves past Grambling State 70-66, Monday evening in Grambling, Louisiana.
Grambling took a 32-27 lead into intermission, but the Lady Braves used a 25-12 third quarter to regain a 52-44 lead going into the fourth quarter.
Alcorn State (3-8, 5-16) was able to keep the Lady Tigers at bay the rest of the way, clinching the win in the final seconds by hitting four straight free throws.
Haynes recorded 28 points and thirteen rebounds as 12 came off of the defensive boards. Norianna also went 6-of-7 from the charity stripe.
Alcorn saw two other Lady Braves reach double figures. ASHTIN MCNICHOLS scored 18 points and BRIANNA TOLLIVER scored 11 points, and recorded seven rebounds and five assists.
The Lady Brave secured 22 more boards then Grambling State (7-4, 10-11). Alcorn State shot 53% from the floor, their best shooting percentage since shooting 54.5% against Delta State (11/13/15).
Alcorn will return to Lorman, Mississippi to face Mississippi Valley, Saturday February 13th.
