LORMAN, Miss - Lady Brave's NORIANNA HAYNES recorded her 12th double-double in a 70-65 come from behind victory over the Prairie View A&M University Lady Panthers Thursday night.
Alcorn State University faced a 12 point deficit with eight minutes left in the third quarter, when the Lady Braves went on a 19-7 run to tie the game at 42 on a Haynes jumper from the free throw line. The Lady Panthers ended the quarter up 46-44.
The game was tied five times in the first six minutes of the fourth quarter. Haynes scored on a layup with less than three and half minutes left in regulation. Alcorn never looked back, holding off Prairie View's final attempts.
Alcorn State edged Prairie View A&M by shooting 16-of-18 from the charity line in the fourth quarter, while PVAM shot 9-of-11. For the game, Alcorn shot a season high 90% (19-21) from the free throw line.
Haynes scored 33 points and 15 rebounds, topping 30 points for the second consecutive game and the fifth time this season. She also recorded her fifth consecutive double-double.
Alcorn State is currently seeded sixth for the SWAC conference tournament.
The Lady Braves will celebrate five seniors Saturday, March 5 in their final regular season game; LINDSAY LITTLEJOHN, ASHTIN MCNICHOLS, JAZMIN STRANE, DAY RUSSELL and NORIANNA HAYNES will be dawning their home jerseys for the last time as Alcorn takes on Texas Southern University. Tipoff is scheduled for 3 p.m.
