Braves Sweep In-state Rival Mississippi Valley State

LORMAN, Miss. -- The Alcorn State University baseball team brought out the broom as they recorded their first series sweep under first year head coach Brent Richardson, defeating the Delta Devils in a three-game weekend series.
Game One
The Braves cruised past Mississippi Valley State University Friday night.
MVSU struck first in the top of the first with one run but Alcorn answered right back with two runs in the bottom of the first to take the lead 2-1.
The Braves added another run in the bottom of third on a CEDRIC BELL RBI double to center field to extend the lead 3-1.
The Delta Devils answered back in the top of the fourth with a single run to cut the lead 3-2.
Alcorn State would out score Mississippi Valley over the next five inning, 8-2.
GEORGE HELBIG recorded the win, pitching six and two/thirds inning. Helbig gave up four runs on eight hits while striking out two. DANIEL BELMONT recorded his first save of the season.
Bell went 2-of-3 recording a double, a homerun, four RBIs, and one run. MOSES CHARLES, Walter Rios, JUSTIN BARNA, COLLIN CARROLL, and CEDRIC WALKER all recorded two hits, respectively. Barna recorded two doubles and Rios recorded one double.
Game Two
 Both teams went scoreless the first four innings.

Alcorn State took advantage of a Delta Devils error to grab an early one run lead in the bottom of the fourth inning. Bell and Charles each recorded a RBI single to extend the lead 3-0 in the bottom of the fourth.
Mississippi Valley answered right back with a RBI single to centerfield. Momentum started swinging the Delta Devils way in the top of the sixth as a Braves error allowed them to cut the lead to 2-3. They would later tie the game on a RBI double to centerfield.
                 The momentum was short lived as the Braves tacked on eight runs in the bottom of the sixth to take an 11-3 lead.
Each team added one more run to end the game 12-4.
Alcorn State's Charles went 3-of-6 and recorded two RBIs. Barna recorded three RBIs.
CEDRIC WALKER recorded the win in relief. He surrendered two earned runs and three hits.  
Game Three

The Braves scored seven runs in the first three innings to cruise to a series victory Sunday afternoon.
Carrol took a 3-2 pitch to right field for a RBI single, taking an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first. Bell added two more runs on a single to centerfield.
After scoring on a Mississippi Valley error, Barna recorded his second home run of the series knocking a two-run homer over the left field wall, to take a 7-0 lead.
The Delta Devils finally got on the board in the top of the fifth inning to cut the lead 7-1.
The Braves added two more runs in the bottom of the fifth, while Mississippi Valley added a single run in the sixth inning to cap the scoring at 9-2.
The Braves recorded 12 hits and committed zero errors. Cornado Skepple recorded the win, pitching five innings and allowing just one run on four hits while recording a season high five strikeouts.
Alcorn State will be back in action Tuesday, April 12 when they travel to Tougaloo College for a midweek tilt at 6 p.m.

The Braves will then face Jackson State University in a series that will begin in Biloxi Friday, April 15 before returning to the JSU campus for a doubleheader Saturday. They will then end the series with a single game Sunday.
