BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Alabama State's Marine Cartier and Gabriela Lackova were named Women's Tennis Player and Freshman of the Year, respectively, the Southwestern Athletic Conference announced on Thursday, April 14. The top individual awards were voted on by league head coaches and Sports Information Directors.
Cartier, who also earned All-SWAC honors at No. 2 singles and No. 3 doubles with Patricia Regel, posted a perfect 5-0 singles record against conference opponents and a 9-1 overall record this season. At No. 3 doubles, Cartier and Regel went 6-3 on the year and 5-0 in SWAC matches.
Lackova, with a 13-6 overall singles record and 4-1 at No. 3 singles, was named to the All-SWAC Second Team at No. 3 singles and No. 2 doubles with Nicole Tekelova.
The All-SWAC First Team was rounded out by Alcorn State's
AIDA KELIC, 2015 Freshman of the Year recipient, at No. 1 singles honors while her teammates
SIOBHAN RYAN-BOVEY and
EKATERINA POTAPOVA collected No. 3 and No. 4 singles accolades, respectfully. Southern's Mia Kent and D'Jeri Raymond rounded out the group at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
In doubles action, the Alcorn State duo of Potapova and Ryan-Bovey earned No. 1 doubles honors, as teammates
IVANA BOBERIC and
AIDA KELIC picked up the award at No. 2 doubles.
The All-SWAC teams are decided by their conference records during the regular season at the East and West Round Up.
