Behind a 4-for-4, seven RBI night from Yamil Pagan, Alabama State University took down Alcorn State University 16-3 in the nightcap of the 2016 SWAC Baseball Tournament from Wesley Barrow Stadium.
Alabama State's offense roared out of the gate quickly, with four consecutive hits – capped with a two-run double to the right field wall by Dillon Cooper – to take a quick 2-0 advantage over the Braves.
Diandre Amion added to the Hornets lead with a RBI single, but Alabama State ended up squandering a bases-loaded chance in the second. The Hornets loaded the bases in the third, and Oscar Prioleau pushed the game to 4-0 with a sac bunt to score Ray Hernandez.
Alabama State(36-15) Â eventually ended the inning with a 5-0 lead. After loading the bags again in the fourth, the Hornets cashed in, scoring two runs via Alcorn State miscues. A Pagan two-run single extended the lead to 9-0.
In the fifth, a bases-loaded hit batsmen changed Hornets' lead to double digits. Pagan then smacked a pitch over the left field wall for a grand slam.
JUSTIN BARNA put the Braves (16-35) on the board with a three-run blast to right field in the bottom of the sixth. In the top of the seventh, Ray Hernandez delivered a solo homer to reinforce the Hornets' lead.
Seven ALST players had at least two hits, while Tyler Howe threw 6.0 innings, striking out eight and allowing six hits in getting the win. CEDRIC WALKER was 3-for-4 for the Braves.
