MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Alcorn State University women's basketball program battled hard and led after three quarters until being outscored 30-7 in the fourth quarter of Saturday's 72-54 decision against Alabama State University at the Dunn Oliver Acadome.

Brianna Luton fronted Alcorn (4-14, 4-3 SWAC) with 17 points followed by junior
Alexus Freeman and senior
Henrietta Wells who had 14 and 13, respectively. The 17 for Luton marks her highest scoring output during SWAC play and the most since her career-high 19 point outing against UCA.
The Lady Braves ended the first quarter scoring the final four points and also scored the first four in the second to take a 20-13 lead with 7:42 left in the opening half.
The two sides traded five-point spurts later in the quarter. After ASU's Damya Toney scored an and-one layup, Freeman drained a jumper with five seconds on the clock, resulting in a 30-27 halftime lead for Alcorn.
Luton tallied 11 of her 17 points in the third as the Lady Braves outscored the Lady Hornets (6-10, 5-1 SWAC) 17-15 to take a 47-42 advantage into the final quarter.
Unfortunately, ASU opened the final quarter on an 11-0 run and held Alcorn scoreless until Wells' and-one at the 5:29 mark.
Freeman drained a trey to put the Lady Braves within one possession at 55-53 with 3:55 to play. The Lady Hornets then put the game out of reach by scoring eight straight over the next 2:07.
Alcorn looks to get back on track Monday at Alabama A&M University. Tipoff is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. CT.
