Alcorn Game Notes
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Going for the weekend sweep, the Alcorn State University men's basketball program will take on Alabama A&M at 7:30 p.m. Monday at T.M. Elmore Gym.

Alcorn (7-11, 4-3 SWAC) started the weekend with a 78-71 victory over Alabama State on Saturday. The game featured a back-and-forth second half with both teams going on 11-0 runs, but the Braves finished the contest on a 10-3 spurt to ultimately prevail.

Freshman
Maurice Howard was a perfect five-for-five from three-point range and posted a career-high 18 points. He became the second Brave to make five long-range shots in a match this year as junior
A.J. Mosby did it against Rust College on Dec. 22 in an 83-68 win.

Not only are the Braves trying to sweep the weekend, but they are also seeking their third straight victory and third straight road win. The overall winning-streak began last Monday with a decisive 82-64 result over Arkansas-Pine Bluff. The road winning-streak started on Jan. 11 when Alcorn topped Jackson State 63-50.

On the season, junior
Reginal Johnson leads the team with 15.2 points and 7.9 rebounds per game while shooting .523 from the field. He's scored at least 12 points in 16 of the last 17 games, and has pulled down at least five rebounds in 17 of the last 18 contests.

Senior
Marquis Vance nearly averages a double-double with 11.0 points and 7.7 rebounds per game. He's coming off back-to-back solid performances of 11 points and eight rebounds vs. UAPB and 13 points and five rebounds at ASU.

The Bulldogs (1-16, 1-5 SWAC) will try and bounce back from a tight 53-52 loss to Southern on Saturday. They had an opportunity to win it at the end but missed two free throws with two seconds left.

Three of AAMU's five conference losses this year have been by two points or less. Its lone win came at Mississippi Valley State 79-76 on Jan. 7.

Quinterian McConico leads the team with 13.5 points and 8.0 rebounds per game. He shoots .555 (96-173) from the field. De'Ederick Petty also averages in double-figures with 10.6 points per contest.

NOTES
- Alcorn is looking for its third consecutive victory over Alabama A&M after sweeping the season series last year 63-58 at home and 62-58 on the road.

- In conference games, the Braves lead the league in field goal percentage defense (.374), three-point field goal percentage defense (.250) and defensive rebounds (29.6 drpg). They are second in the SWAC in scoring margin (+5.0), assists (13.6 apg) and offensive rebounds (12.6 orpg).

- In SWAC games, Johnson leads the league in rebounding with 8.7 per contest. The team's "sixth man", Johnson had a monster performance against Mississippi Valley State where he put up 28 points and 16 rebounds, both were career-highs.

- Vance has tallied 63 career double-figure scoring games and nine double-doubles. Vance is Alcorn's newest member of the 1,000-point club after he surpassed the mark against Blue Mountain on Nov. 22, 2016.

- Averaging just under double-figures, senior
Denzel Dulin puts in 9.5 points per affair. He's registered at least eight points in seven of eight conference games this year and reached double-figures in three of the last six. Dulin ranks eighth in league games in three-point percentage (.438). He scored a career-high 20 points at Colorado State on Nov. 27 which upped his previous best of 16 set in the game before against Blue Mountain.

- Mosby has tallied four double-figure scoring games in his last five outings which included against UAPB where he neared a triple-double with 14 points, nine assists and eight rebounds. He's the only Brave to start in every game this year. In league games, Mosby ranks second in the SWAC in assist:turnover ratio (2.1) and sixth in assists (3.0 apg).

DeAndre Davis is coming off back-to-back double-digit scoring games including a season-high 15 points against UAPB. He's grabbed at least six rebounds in each of the last four games. Davis returned to the lineup for conference play after missing the previous nine games with a hand injury. He posted 12 points and five rebounds against Texas Southern in his first game back.

Yalen Reed has been one of Alcorn's most accurate shooters this year. He comes off the bench and is shooting 22-for-39 (.564) on the year.

- The Braves are 7-1 this season when leading at half, 4-0 when holding the opposition to under 60 points, and 4-0 when scoring over 80 points
