LORMAN, Miss. – Riding a three-game winning-streak, the Alcorn State University men's basketball program will kick-off a three-game homestand Saturday when it hosts Southern at 5:30 p.m. on the SWAC Digital Network at the Davey L. Whitney Complex.

Both teams enter the game with identical 5-3 conference records. The winner will stand alone in second-place in the standings behind Texas Southern which enters Saturday at 6-1. Alcorn is 8-11 overall, while the Jaguars are 9-12.

The Braves started their winning-streak with an 82-64 victory at home on Jan. 16. They followed it up this past weekend with a road sweep over Alabama State 78-71 and Alabama A&M 81-70. With a win Saturday, Alcorn will have won at least four games in a row three times over the last two seasons.

Junior
Reginal Johnson leads the team with 15.1 points and 7.8 rebounds per game while shooting .520 from the field. He's scored at least 12 points in 17 of the last 18 games, and has pulled down at least five rebounds in 18 of the last 19 contests.

Marquis Vance also nearly averages a double-double with 11.3 points and 7.6 rebounds per game. He's tallied 64 career double-figure scoring games and nine double-doubles.

In conference games, the Braves lead the league in field goal percentage defense (.386), three-point field goal percentage defense (.253), defensive rebounding (28.4 drpg) and rebounding margin (+5.2). They are second in the SWAC in scoring margin (+5.8), assists (13.4 apg), offensive rebounding (13.0 orpg) and scoring defense (66.0 ppg).

Southern has won three of its last four, but is coming off a 79-65 loss at Alabama State on Monday. The Jaguars come to Lorman wrapping up a three-game road trip.

Senior Shawn Prudhomme is one of the league's top scorers with 18.0 points per game in league play. He shoots .408 from three-point range and also grabs 5.8 rebounds per outing. Aiding the attack is Jared Sam who averages 14.0 points and 7.6 rebounds per game, and Tre'lun Banks with 11.7 points per contest.

As a team, Southern shoots .458 from the field which is second-best in the SWAC.

It marks the only game of the weekend for both teams as they have Monday off. Alcorn will stay at home next weekend when it hosts Jackson State at 5:30 p.m. Saturday and Grambling at 7 p.m. Monday.

- The Braves are 5-2 at home this season where they have outscored the opposition 549-434.

- Alcorn is 8-1 this season when leading at half, 5-0 when scoring over 80 points and 4-0 when holding the opposition to under 60 points.

- In SWAC games, Johnson ranks third in the league in rebounding (8.4 rpg) and fourth in free throw percentage (.846). The team's "sixth man", Johnson had a monster performance against Mississippi Valley State where he put up 28 points and 16 rebounds, both were career-highs.

- Vance is Alcorn's newest member of the 1,000-point club after he surpassed the mark against Blue Mountain on Nov. 22, 2016. He's up to 1,167 career points.

- Averaging just under double-figures, senior
Denzel Dulin puts in 9.9 points per affair and 10.4 ppg in SWAC games. He's registered at least eight points in eight of nine conference games and reached double-figures in four of the last seven. Dulin is coming off a 17-point performance at AAMU. He scored a career-high 20 points at Colorado State on Nov. 27. In league games, Dulin ranks ninth in three-point percentage (.421).

A.J. Mosby has tallied five double-figure scoring games in his last six outings which included against UAPB where he neared a triple-double with 14 points, nine assists and eight rebounds. He's the only Brave to start in every game this year. In league games, Mosby ranks second in the SWAC in assist:turnover ratio (1.8) and top-five in assists (3.0 apg).

DeAndre Davis is coming off three consecutive double-digit scoring games including a season-high 15 points against UAPB. He's grabbed at least six rebounds four of the last five games. Davis is shooting .519 from the field in league games. He returned to the lineup for conference play after missing the previous nine games with a hand injury.

Yalen Reed has been one of Alcorn's most accurate shooters this year. He comes off the bench and is shooting 22-for-40 (.550) on the year.

- Alcorn's win over the Hornets was its first at ASU since Jan. 26, 2009. The game featured a back-and-forth second half as both teams went on 11-0 runs, but Alcorn finished the game on a 10-3 spurt to seal it. Freshman
Maurice Howard was a perfect five-for-five from three-point range and posted a career-high 18 points.

Juwan Henderson recorded five steals vs. MVSU which is the most by a Brave in a single game this season.
