The Braves (3-9, 0-1 SWAC) are looking to shake-off a last-second defeat to preseason favorite Texas Southern in the conference opener, 67-65. The Tigers escaped after a put-back went in with 0.8 seconds left. Junior
Reginal Johnson registered a team-high 19 points and was one rebound away from a double-double.

Johnson leads the team with 15.2 points and 7.5 rebounds per outing. Alcorn's "sixth man" has scored in double-figures in 11 consecutive games and has pulled down at least five rebounds in every contest this year.

Marquis Vance puts in 11.1 points per outing and is the team's leading rebounder with 8.0 per game which ranks third in the conference. Vance leads the SWAC in defensive rebounds (6.0 drpg) and is third in blocks (1.3 bpg).

On the season, Alcorn leads the SWAC in blocks (4.3 bpg), assists (13.6 apg) and defensive rebounds (26.8 drpg). The Braves are second in scoring defense (72.7 ppg), rebounding offense (38.2), defensive rebounding percentage (.731) and three-pointers made per game (6.9).

The Panthers (3-12, 0-1 SWAC) are also looking to rebound from a tough opener as they fell 59-57 to Southern on Monday. PVAMU trailed 58-50 with 2:14 left when it came storming back to cut the deficit to 59-57 with 10 seconds remaining. The Panthers had a couple chances on their final possession, but had a shot blocked with three seconds left and missed a three-pointer at the buzzer.

Zachary Hamilton leads PVAMU with 14.8 points per game and shoots .381 from beyond-the-arc. Daquan Cook is also a key contributor with 10.9 points per outing.

- Alcorn is 3-1 at home this season where it has outscored the opposition 324-238. The Braves posted wins over Selma 93-48, Blue Mountain 83-57 and Rust 83-68.

- Alcorn swept the season series over Prairie View A&M last year winning 81-64 at home and 73-70 on the road.

- Johnson ranks top-five in the conference in scoring, offensive rebounds (3.0 orpg), fifth in field goal percentage (.516). He ended non-conference play with back-to-back double-doubles of 12 points and 10 rebounds at Grand Canyon and 19 points and 12 rebounds vs. Rust.

A.J. Mosby is the reigning SWAC College Sports Madness Player of the Week winner. He registered a career game of 19 points and 10 rebounds against Rust, both figures were career-highs. Mosby ranks top-five in the SWAC in both assists (2.8 apg) and steals (1.5 spg). He leads the Braves in both categories and the only Alcorn student-athlete to start in every game this season.

- Vance has tallied 59 career double-figure scoring games and eight double-doubles. Vance is Alcorn's newest member of the 1,000-point club after he surpassed the mark against Blue Mountain.

Denzel Dulin nets 9.5 points per contest. He ranks top-10 in the league in free throw percentage with a .744 mark. Dulin made 13 against Colorado State; it's the most by any student-athlete in a single-game this year in the SWAC. He scored a career-high 20 points in the game which upped his previous best of 16 set in the game before against Blue Mountain.

DeAndre Davis returned to the lineup for conference play after missing the previous nine games with a hand injury. He posted 12 points and five rebounds against Texas Southern in his first game back. Davis finished third in the SWAC in both field goal percentage (.584) and offensive rebounding (2.5 orpg) last season.

Yalen Reed has been hot from the field. He's shooting 14-for-21 (.667) over the last seven games and 21-for-34 (.618) on the year. Reed ranks sixth in the SWAC in blocks with 0.8 per outing. He ended non-conference play with an 11-point affair against Rust where he went 5-for-7 from the field.

Avery Patterson missed the first two games of the season but came back to score 14 points in each of his first two games returning. He concluded non-conference play with a strong performance of 12 points and six rebounds against Rust where he went three-for-six from long-range.

- The Braves played a loaded non-conference schedule with eight of their 11 games on the road against bigger schools. They went on a six-game road stretch where they played games in four different time zones (pacific, mountain, central and eastern time). Alcorn went 30 days between home games.
