Howard Nips Lady Braves 1-0 Sunday

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Alcorn State University women's soccer team fell 1-0 in a neutral-site conference match against Howard Sunday at the Sicard Hollow Athletic Complex.

"It was a tough 1-0 loss today," said head coach Junior Noel. "We didn't play at our best, but we battled to the end. We couldn't get much going offensively."

Kela Gray scored the eventual game-winner on a break-away in the 53rd minute. Alcorn had an opportunity to even the score in the 82nd minute, but Howard's keeper saved freshman Mireya Gonzalez's shot.

Redshirt-sophomore Rita Okoro placed one of three shots on target, Gonzalez had the one shot on frame, and junior Yaira Guardado took Alcorn's other shot. Freshman keeper Kameran Proby logged a full 90 minutes and recorded five saves.

The Lady Braves led in saves (5-2) and committed fewer fouls (4-15). Howard is now 4-0 in the all-time series.

Alcorn caps off the week this Friday with a 3 p.m. conference game at Jackson State.
