PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas. - The Alcorn State University women's soccer team wrapped up its four-game conference road swing with losses at Texas Southern and Prairie View A&M this weekend.

Redshirt-sophomore Rita Okoro found the back of the net twice over the weekend as she posted a tally in each game. The Nigerian forward is second on Alcorn's all-time leading scorer list with 13 career goals. Ashley Rankin (2005-08) sits atop that list with 22.

Junior Yaira Guardado assisted Okoro in the TSU game to claim a point. Okoro had a team-high 13 shots, followed by junior Vanessa Monge with three and Guardado with two. Freshman Kameran Proby started both games in the net, but allowed five goals against seven saves in just over 67 minutes of work. Sophomore keeper Giselle Rojas recorded 10 saves and surrendered a pair of scores in nearly 113 minutes played.

Texas Southern | L, 1-3

The Lady Tigers (6-5-2, 5-1-1 SWAC) opened the scoring in the 15th minute as Kelly Sanders deflected a high-arching pass from Alexia Lapido. Okoro scored the equalizer two minutes later as she beat the keeper from outside the top of the 18-yard box. The tie was short-lived, however, as the hosts pushed their lead to 3-1 before the halfway point. The Lady Braves had a couple of looks in the second half, but were unable to cut into the TSU lead and the Lady Tigers held on for the win.

"Another tough road loss and another game we should have won fairly easily," said head coach Junior Noel. "Apart from a few shaky moments in the latter part of the first half, we controlled the game for long stretches. We didn't convert the chances we created, though, including a number of opportunities in the second half."

Prairie View A&M | L, 1-4

On Sunday against the Lady Panthers (5-8-1, 5-2-1 SWAC), Prairie View struck twice early, and then added a goal right before the teams went into the locker rooms. In the second half, Okoro placed a low shot to the back of the net in the 50th minute to get Alcorn on the board. PVAMU scored again in the last minute for the final tally.

"A poor first half performance led to a poor result today," added Noel. "We were unable to adapt to a strong cross wind that made it difficult for us to play out of our half of the field. We gave up two early soft goals and the third near the end of half was a screamer. We came into our own in the second half, but we had dug ourselves too deep of a hole to climb out."

The Lady Braves are back at Jack Spinks-Marino Casem Stadium this Friday as they host Arkansas-Pine Bluff in a 4 p.m. SWAC contest.
