BATON ROUGE, La. - The Alcorn State University women's soccer team plays its third match in five days Tuesday as the Lady Braves travel to Southern University for a 4 p.m. conference game against the Lady Jaguars (0-12-1, 0-7-1 SWAC) at Jaguar Park.
"This is the home stretch and this is where horses really begin to run," said head coach Junior Noel. "We have to show our worth in these last two games because our objective from day one has been to make it to the SWAC Tournament. Our getting there heavily depends on the results from these next two games."
Redshirt-sophomore Rita Okoro scored three goals over the weekend to tie her own program record for most goals scored in a season with eight. Senior Alexandra Salvador owns five points on a pair of scores and an assist and helped anchor an Alcorn back line that withstood 17 second-half shots Sunday against Grambling. Freshman keeper Kameran Proby recorded her second career shutout and set season highs with 12 saves on 20 shots faced in the win over the Lady Tigers. The McDonough, Ga. native improved to 3-6 on the season.
"Everybody knows the importance of this week," added Noel. "It can't be stressed enough. We know that our entire season depends on this week and it's a business-like approach for the rest of this week and beyond."

The Lady Jaguars are in search of their first win in league play and are coming off of losses to Alabama A&M and Alabama State last weekend. Southern earned a 1-1 double-overtime tie at Arkansas-Pine Bluff On Sept. 29.
Sophia Zavala leads the team with a pair of goals, followed by Lauryn McKinney with a goal and an assist. Keeper Kendra Lewis is 0-8-1 on the year and has made 82 saves against 41 goals allowed.
SU leads the all-time series 15-3-1. Alcorn took a Sept. 30 meeting at home 4-2 last season. Junior Yaira Guardado opened the scoring in the seventh minute and Comfort Agyei made it a 2-0 lead right before the half. Guardado then added a second score midway through the second half and Okoro found the back of the net in the final minutes for the final tally.
