Alcorn Concludes Home Schedule With AAMU Sunday, Senior Night Monday VS. ASU

LORMAN, Miss. - The Alcorn State University volleyball program hosts Alabama A&M Sunday at 5 p.m. and Alabama State Monday at 6 p.m. in the final home games of the regular season.

"I'm looking for some heart, pride, fight, and discipline in these two games," said head coach Chelsea Lucas. "Everyone must be committed and consistent in their play."

Junior Singryd Valadares is Alcorn's leading scorer with 217 kills and freshman Jasmine Chambers has tallied 490 assists this season. Freshman Fiapaipai Iosia leads the team in service aces with 37 and in digs with 508. Valadares has also recorded 47 blocks on the year.

Sunday's game marks Alcorn's High School Day. The team will recognize seniors Brittney Dumas and Lurlethia Jones before the start of Monday's match, which also doubles as the "Trick or Treat Halloween" and Elementary School Day.

Alabama A&M | Oct. 29 | 5 p.m.

The Lady Bulldogs (11-17, 11-3 SWAC) are second the league after going 3-2 at the SWAC Round-Up on Oct. 20-22. Terra Brooks paces the attack with 191 kills and 24 aces, while Meredith Sieck adds 605 assists. The defense is anchored by Cierra Davis' 193 digs and Courtney Oliver's and Syrtha Prides' 145 combined blocks.

Valadares finished with eight kills and freshman Daharri Thompkins followed with six to lead the Lady Braves against the Lady Bulldogs back on Oct 1. Chambers reached double-digit assists with 12 and Iosia tallied 16 digs.

Alabama State | Oct. 30 | 6 p.m.

The Lady Hornets (21-9, 14-0 SWAC) sit atop the conference standings and went 5-0 at the second SWAC Round-Up. Ni'yesha Brown leads the offense with 356 kills, followed by Briana Dorsey with 276. Kori Kutsch is the primary setter with 674 assists and has a team-high 30 aces. On defense, Asha Daniels owns 372 digs while Dorsey and Payten Clark have combined for 214 blocks.

The teams previously met in Montgomery, Ala. on Oct. 2, with the Lady Hornets taking the match in straight sets. Freshman Omone Davies and Thompkins each tallied four kills, Chambers chipped in eight assists, and Dumas served four aces. On defense, Chambers recorded a block and Iosia made 10 digs.
