JACKSON, Miss. - The Alcorn State University volleyball program is on the road Thursday night as the Lady Braves head up to Jackson for a 6:30 p.m. conference match at T.B. Ellis Gymnasium.
"These last couple of games in the season will allow us to rebuild and understand what it will take to continue to progress," said head coach Chelsey Lucas. "These young ladies have come a long way, but we have a lot more to show in these final matches."
The Lady Braves concluded their home schedule this week with games against Alabama A&M last Sunday and Alabama State on Monday. Freshman Octavia Dixon had 13 kills and three assists in the two matches. Freshmen Majesty Ferguson added 28 assists and Fiapaipai Iosia and Damyani Collier both served a pair of aces. Defensively, Dixon and Iosia each tallied nine digs and freshman Omone Davies was close behind with seven.

The Lady Tigers (6-23, 5-9 SWAC) went 2-3 at the second SWAC Round Up on Oct. 20-22, earning wins against Prairie View A&M and Southern. Alexandra Burney and Camry Dabney lead the offense with 235 and 223 kills, respectively. Sapphire Simpson is the go-to setter with 514 assists and has served a team-high 19 aces. JSU's defense is anchored by Tyler Moorer's 278 digs and Dayjah Stewart's 73 blocks.
The two teams met on Oct. 5 at the Davey L. Complex earlier this season, with JSU earning a straight-set win. Junior Alondra Rivera Modesto scored six kills and freshman Daharri Thompkins followed with five. Freshman Jasmine Chambers reached double-digit assists with 11. Junior Singryd Valadares and Rivero Modesto both recorded three blocks and Iosia had 18 digs.
