ITTA BENA, Miss. - The Alcorn State University volleyball program concluded the 2017 season Monday night as the Lady Braves fell to Mississippi Valley State 3-0 at the R.W. Harrison Complex.
Junior Singryd Valadares and freshman Mae Lewis scored seven and six kills respectively to lead Alcorn on offense. Several freshmen also contributed in the loss, as Majesty Ferguson set a season-high with 26 assists and Jamiya Hoyt served a pair of aces. Kaylyn Latin had 13 digs and Alicia Johnson recorded a pair of blocks to head the defensive effort.
Set one was back-and-forth early, but an 8-1 run by the Devilettes (8-25, 5-11 SWAC) gave the hosts the 1-0 match lead. After Alcorn knotted the score at 7-7 in set two, MVSU scored five unanswered to create some separation. Trailing 18-13, the Lady Braves put together a 7-0 run to take the lead, but the Devilettes closed out the set with four straight for another match point.
Alcorn led early in the final set, but a 10-1 MVSU run helped seal the win for the hosts.
