LORMAN, Miss. – Its longest home series of the season will take place this weekend for the Alcorn State University baseball program when it hosts Butler in a four-gamer at Willie E. "Rat" McGowan Stadium.

The series will kick-off Friday at 1 p.m., followed by a doubleheader Saturday starting at noon and will wrap-up Sunday at noon.

The Braves (2-2) opened the season by winning two-of-three at the MLB Urban Invitational. Victories included an 11-3 decision over Prairie View A&M and a 6-5 outcome over Southern.

Alcorn played its home opener Monday in a grueling 16-inning affair against Murray State where the Racers were able to escape with an 11-8 result. The Braves trailed 8-4 heading into the ninth inning then they came back to tie it. Alcorn used nine different pitchers and the game last 5 hours and 10 minutes.

Kirt Cormier is the reigning SWAC Hitter of the Week winner. Through four games, Cormier is hitting for a .571 average, .625 on-base percentage and .857 slugging. All three totals rank first in the conference after the first weekend.

Butler (3-1) opened the season by beating La Salle twice 3-1 and 6-5, and splitting a pair with Ohio 15-4 and 0-4.

The Bulldogs are playing under first-year head coach Dave Schrage after he spent the last five years at South Dakota State. He inherited a Butler team that went 14-40 overall last season. Schrage brought in eight freshman.

Gehrig Parker has led the team at the plate with a .417 batting average on five hits in 12 at-bats. The Bulldogs have used a lot of arms as 13 different pitchers have been on the mound, and none for more than five innings.
