Braves Prep for Three-Game Home Series against AAMU

LORMAN, Miss. – Getting ready for its second home conference series of the year, the Alcorn State University baseball program will host Alabama A&M in a three-game series at Willie "E" Rat McGowan Stadium.
 
First pitch Friday is set for 6 p.m.
 
In their first league series at home, the Braves (7-12, 3-3 SWAC) took two out of three from Mississippi Valley State. Alcorn has allowed just seven runs in its last four home contests dating back to the series finale against Butler on Feb. 26.
 
Junior Wallace Rios Jimenez has reached base safely in all 16 games he's played in this year and ranks top-five in the SWAC with a .465 on-base percentage. Also with streaks on the line, junior Kirt Cormier is on a nine-game on-base streak, and senior Jason Sanez is riding a five-game hitting streak.
 
Cormier leads the team with a .333 batting average. He also ranks seventh in the conference in total bases with 33. Sanez is hitting for a .323 averages, while senior Walter Vives is at a .303 mark. Alcorn ranks third in the conference in batting average as a team with a .246 clip.
 
On the mound, sophomore Conrado Skepple leads the SWAC with four saves on the season. He carries a 2.08 ERA in 11 appearances. The Braves are expected to start junior Jahborus Smith and seniors Regynold Johnson and Austin Willis-Greene but it's subject to change.
 
The Bulldogs come into play with a 5-19 overall record and 2-4 in conference. They dropped two of three to Alabama State on the road to begin league action before losing the final two games of a series at home against MVSU.
 
Senior infielder Cornelious Woods leads the team with a .359 average and .414 on-base percentage. Junior first baseman Carson McGregory has started all 24 games this season and carries a .306 average. Freshman catcher Zeth Malcom provides the power with a team-high three homers.
 
Senior lefty Brandon Marsonek has been the team's top pitcher with a 3.67 earned run average in 41.2 innings. He's recorded 47 strike outs and just 21 walks. Marsonek has made 17 appearances with a pair of starts.
