Braves Begin Road Stretch with Mid-Week Series at Nicholls

THIBODAUX, La. – Kicking off a 12-game road swing, the Alcorn State University baseball program will head to Nicholls State for a pair of 6 p.m. games Tuesday and Wednesday at Ray E. Didier Field.
 
It's the longest road trip of the season for the Braves (7-15, 3-6 SWAC) who will go 26 days between home games.
 
Alcorn has been led offensively by junior Wallace Rios Jimenez who is riding a 19-game on-base streak. He ranks sixth in the SWAC with a .459 on-base percentage and is also on a four-game hitting streak.
 
Junior Kirt Cormier and senior Jason Sanez are tied for the team best in batting average with .319 marks. Cormier carries a 12-game on-base streak, while Sanez is on a seven-game streak.
 
Out of the bullpen, sophomore Conrado Skepple ranks first in the SWAC with four saves. He hoists a 1.69 ERA in 12 appearances.
 
The Braves are undefeated this year when leading after seven innings. Their biggest inning has been the eighth where they've outscored the opposition 18-7.
 
In Alcorn's last outing, it scored 10 runs against Alabama A&M on Sunday. It marked a conference-high in scoring for the Braves. Rios, senior Walter Vives, sophomore Brandon Barna and senior Justin Barna all recorded a pair of hits. Justin Barna launched his first homer this season on a towering three-run shot to leftfield.
 
The Colonels (13-11, 5-4 SLC) are 10-3 at home this season including a 3-1 win over No. 13 UL-Lafayette. Though, they are coming off a tough road weekend where they dropped three games at McNeese State.
